About the Buffalo to Guelph trip
It's about 97 miles (157 km) from Buffalo to Guelph, including a border crossing. Guelph trips usually centre on the University of Guelph, including the Ontario Veterinary College, family visits and the Hanlon business park.
We pick you up at BUF arrivals or anywhere in Buffalo, such as Cheektowaga, Grand Island or Tonawanda, and drive the QEW to Hamilton, then Hwy 6 north to the 401 and the Hanlon into Guelph. Drop-off can be the University of Guelph and the Ontario Veterinary College, Downtown Guelph near the Basilica of Our Lady, the Hanlon business park or Stone Road Mall, or any address you give us.
The Basilica of Our Lady stands on a hill above downtown Guelph and is a handy landmark for drop-offs.

Route and timing
- Northbound on Hwy 6 through Hamilton is the main slowdown on weekday afternoons.
- Holiday weekends in either country, and summer Friday afternoons, usually mean longer bridge lines. Tell us if you're travelling then.
- Leaving Buffalo, the bridges are only minutes from downtown, so the border is the first part of the trip rather than the last.
Border crossing, passports & NEXUS
- There are two good crossings on the way to Guelph: the Peace Bridge from downtown Buffalo to Fort Erie, and the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge north of Niagara Falls. Your driver checks the waits before choosing.
- You clear Canadian entry with the CBSA at the bridge, and the officer may ask each traveller about the purpose of the trip.
- Heading to Guelph, every traveller needs ID that Canada accepts. A valid passport is recommended, and NEXUS cards and US enhanced driver's licences are also accepted. Bring a document the US accepts for your return trip too.
- The NEXUS lane can only be used when every person in the vehicle, including the driver, is a NEXUS member; otherwise we time your Buffalo pickup for the regular lanes.
Requirements depend on citizenship and age. Check the official guidance before you travel: US CBP (entering the US) · CBSA (entering Canada) · Live border wait times
