About the Buffalo to Niagara-on-the-Lake trip

Visitors come for the Shaw Festival, the wineries, weddings at winery venues and the historic Old Town on Queen Street. From Buffalo it's about 35 miles (57 km), with the border in between.

We pick you up at BUF arrivals or anywhere in Buffalo, such as Grand Island, Hamburg or Cheektowaga, and drive I-190 to the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge, which lands at Queenston, right on the edge of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Drop-off can be the Old Town and Queen Street, the Shaw Festival theatres, winery wedding venues or inns and B&Bs, or any address you give us.

Many winery venues have their own driveways and drop-off spots; tell us the venue and we'll plan the arrival.

    Route and timing

    • The bridge lands in Queenston, minutes from the Old Town; summer weekends on Queen Street and the Parkway are the slowest part.
    • We check live border wait times before your pickup; both US CBP and Canada's CBSA publish them.
    • If you're landing at BUF, we track your flight and leave once you're in the car, so a delay doesn't cost you a spot in line.

    Border crossing, passports & NEXUS

    • The Lewiston-Queenston Bridge, at the end of I-190 north of Niagara Falls, is usually the most direct crossing for a trip to Niagara-on-the-Lake. If its line is long, your driver uses the Peace Bridge instead.
    • You clear Canadian entry with the CBSA at the bridge, and the officer may ask each traveller about the purpose of the trip.
    • Heading to Niagara-on-the-Lake, every traveller needs ID that Canada accepts. A valid passport is recommended, and NEXUS cards and US enhanced driver's licences are also accepted. Bring a document the US accepts for your return trip too.
    • The NEXUS lane can only be used when every person in the vehicle, including the driver, is a NEXUS member; otherwise we time your Buffalo pickup for the regular lanes.

Requirements depend on citizenship and age. Check the official guidance before you travel: US CBP (entering the US) · CBSA (entering Canada) · Live border wait times
